A large share of the rope in Dallas happens between two people who have never been to anything and do not intend to. Work is usually the reason and it gets said plainly rather than hinted at. That produces a board of pairs who taught themselves and each other, and who are looking for a partner rather than for a community. It also keeps the visible scene small and closely watched, so anyone who does step into it is noticed on the first evening.
