I am about forty pounds heavier than I was at forty, my knees have opinions now, and there is a whole category of thing I used to do easily that I am simply not going to do again. None of that is a tragedy. It is what happened, it happened over three years, and what I want is a partner who is interested in the person in front of him rather than in a version he has read about.
Forty seven, Manhattan, twelve years in. The reason this is the whole first half of my post is that the man I was with for four years could not adjust. Not cruelly. He kept referring to how we used to do things, in a fond way, and after a year of that I began dreading evenings I had spent a decade enjoying.
What I have found since is that the change made me better at the parts that matter. I know exactly what my body is doing now and I say so quickly, whereas at thirty I would put up with something for twenty minutes rather than interrupt.
So: somebody who asks practical questions once, adapts without a fuss, and then gets on with it. I would like it regular and I would like it to last years.
Not looking for anyone who wants to help me get back to anything. Not looking for a man who will say the word still, as in you can still do that, which I have heard more than enough. And not looking to be anybody's before and after.
