Since November I have written what I would guess is forty considered messages and had four replies. Two of those were a single line. One was somebody explaining that they were looking for something else, which was decent of them and which I mean sincerely. One turned into a conversation and then stopped mid sentence for no reason I will ever learn.
Twenty eight, the Bronx, three years in. I am not going to pretend this post is cheerful. I have got to the point where I open one of these and read it as a piece of fiction, which is a bad frame of mind to try to meet anybody in, and writing this down is partly an attempt to shake it off.
What I actually want is unremarkable. Somebody to see regularly. Both ends of the rope, ideally, but I have stopped being fussy about that. An evening a week and a person who answers.
I will say that I do reply. To everybody, including the people I am not interested in, within a couple of days, with an actual sentence. It costs nothing and it is apparently rare enough to be worth advertising.
Not looking for anybody who wants a long correspondence with no intention of meeting. Not looking for somebody who needs to be chased. And not looking for a person who is going to open with a question they could have answered by reading three paragraphs.
