For eleven years I went to everything. I knew everybody, I was on the group chats, I had opinions about how things should be run and I shared them. Two years ago I stopped, entirely, and the main thing I have felt since is relief, which took me about six months to admit to myself.
Thirty seven, Queens, thirteen years in. I am not going to be rude about any of it. Those years gave me the whole of my practice and several friendships I still have. It is simply that at some point the social apparatus became the activity and the actual rope became something I did occasionally in front of people.
So what I am posting for is the opposite. One person, in a flat, with nobody's opinion involved and no calendar of events to keep up with. I am aware that a certain amount of community involvement is how people stay accountable, and I would say in reply that I am still in touch with several people who would tell me if I were being an idiot.
What I would like is long and domestic. Cooking, an evening a week, a person whose family I eventually meet.
Not looking for anybody who needs an active social life in this, because I would drag on you. Not looking to be persuaded back. And not looking for a person who would want us to be a visible couple anywhere, since I no longer go anywhere.
