A good proportion of what arrives in my messages is from people who want to be photographed, and I understand why they assume, because the version of this that exists in public is almost entirely pictures. I do not take any. I never have. There is no camera in the room and there is not going to be one.
Thirty six, Brooklyn, nine years in. The reason is not privacy, although that is a nice side effect. It is that the moment an image is the output, I start making decisions about how something looks instead of how it is going, and the two are not the same and sometimes point in opposite directions.
I am aware this makes me sound severe. In person I am not. I am quite funny and I make a great deal of tea.
What I want is a partner who is interested in the hour rather than in what the hour produced. That tends to mean somebody who has been doing this a while, or somebody who came to it for reasons that had nothing to do with what they saw on a screen. I want it regular, at home, with one person, over years, with all the boring domestic accumulation that implies.
Not looking for anybody who wants pictures, however tasteful, however private. Not looking to be anybody's portfolio. And not looking for someone who would want us to be visible as a couple in this, since I am barely visible in it myself.
