One week in three my phone can go at any hour and I have to leave. Not eventually, not after finishing what we were doing, immediately. That has happened during an evening more than once and it is the single most difficult thing about being with me.
Forty four, the Jersey side, twelve years in. What ended my last relationship was not the calls themselves but what built up around them. She was gracious every single time and never once complained, and after two years of being gracious she was completely worn out and I had not noticed because she had never said.
So I would rather somebody complained. I would rather hear that this week has been annoying than have it stored up. That is the actual thing I am asking for and it is harder to find than it sounds.
Practically: two weeks in three I am completely reliable and home every evening. The third week is a lottery. I do not cancel for anything else, ever, and I am extremely punctual about the things I can control. What I want is a long partnership with one person. Regular, unhurried, at my place or yours, with a lot of ordinary time in it.
Not looking for anybody who will say it does not matter and then find that it does. Not looking for something that requires a fixed weekly slot with no exceptions. And not looking for a person who wants to be told the details of the job, which are dull and which I cannot discuss anyway.
