We both work in kitchens, which means we are awake when nobody else is and asleep on a Saturday night. For years each of us thought this was the reason we would never have any of this in our lives. Then we met each other and discovered that the timetable which had ruined everything else was the thing that made it possible.
Our week runs Monday and Tuesday. That is our weekend and it is the whole of our social life, and it is why we know almost nobody, because everything anybody organises happens on the evenings we are at work.
We are thirty two and thirty five, Brooklyn, together three years and doing rope for about six each. He ties, I get tied, and occasionally the other way round when one of us is in the mood.
What we are looking for is other people whose week runs backwards. Bar staff, nurses, drivers, anybody. Company on a Monday afternoon is a genuinely rare commodity and we have very little of it. We would happily meet a couple, a single person, or a group, and we are not looking for anything beyond friendship and the occasional shared afternoon.
Not looking for a third. Not looking for invitations to anything on a Friday or a Saturday, because we will never once be able to come. And not looking for people who will suggest we take a night off, which is not how any of this works.
