We have a flat with high ceilings, thick walls and a room we use for nothing else, on a lease from a time that will not come again. That fact has shaped our practice more than any decision we have made, and it has also taught us to be careful, because a couple with space attracts a particular kind of friendliness.
We do not say that bitterly. If we were twenty six in a shared flat we would be doing exactly the same. It is simply that we have twice ended up in a friendship that turned out to be about the room, and unpicking it was awkward for everybody.
We are both forty nine, Neukölln, together eighteen years, fifteen years of rope each. She ties, I get tied, and that has never once moved.
What we want is friends. People we would see anyway, who happen to also do this. If some of that ends up here, good, and if it never does that is entirely fine.
Not looking for a third, in any configuration. Not looking to host anything organised, which we have been asked about and declined. And not looking for anybody who opens by asking about the space, which is now a reliable enough signal that we have stopped replying to it.
