Neither of us ties. We both get tied, we have both done it for about nine years, and when we got together four years ago several people pointed out the obvious arithmetic and we said it would be fine. It has been fine and it has also meant that our shared practice consists of talking about a thing neither of us can provide for the other.
We have tried the obvious solution twice. Once with somebody who was excellent and moved to Hamburg. Once with an arrangement that was too vague and quietly fell apart when it became clear that nobody had said what anybody actually wanted.
We are thirty three and thirty six, Friedrichshain. What we learned is that the version that works is not an arrangement at all. It is a friendship first, with somebody who becomes part of our life rather than a solution to a scheduling problem.
So we are not advertising a vacancy and we would be uneasy if it read that way. We are two people who would like to know somebody properly over a long time, and rope would probably end up in it.
Not looking for anything with terms attached. Not looking for somebody who wants one of us and will put up with the other. And not looking to rush, because both times we rushed it went the same way.
