There are nine people in my flat. It is an arrangement that made sense when I arrived and now has its own governance structure and a spreadsheet for the bathroom. The courtyard outside is the kind that carries a whisper from the fourth floor to the ground, and everybody in the building knows everybody's business as a matter of routine.
So I bring nothing to this except myself. No space, no privacy, no possibility of hosting, not now and not in the foreseeable future given what a flat costs here.
Twenty six, Friedrichshain, two years in. I have had one short thing that ended partly because of all this and partly because he was leaving anyway, which is the standard Berlin combination.
What I would like is somebody with a door of their own who is relaxed about that being the arrangement, and who does not turn it into a running joke, because I have already heard all of them. I want something regular. One person, a fixed evening, and the ordinary slow business of getting to know somebody rather than a series of introductions.
Not looking for anybody who wants to visit my flat, ever, for any reason. Not looking for somebody who will offer to solve my housing situation, which is kind and which changes the whole shape of a relationship. And not looking for anything that requires me to be quiet, because I have been quiet for two years and I am tired of it.
