There are two people in my week. One is a partner of six years who lives uptown and does not tie. The other is a practice arrangement that has run for four years, is entirely non romantic, happens on the same evening every week and has never once been anything else. Both of them know about each other, have met, and are on perfectly good terms.
I put that in the first paragraph because the failure mode in this city is not dishonesty. It is fog. People do not lie, they simply do not say, and then somebody finds out at a gathering and is quite reasonably upset.
Forty three, Manhattan, eleven years in. What I have room for is one more person, on a specific evening, with everything above disclosed and nothing subject to change without a conversation.
I understand that a lot of people will read the arithmetic and stop there, and that is a completely sane response. What I am offering is not a large share of a life. It is a genuinely reliable, honestly described, well established one, in which nobody is ever going to be surprised by anything. What I would like in return is somebody who is equally plain about their own arrangements, whatever they are.
Not looking for anybody who wants to be the only one, because I cannot offer that and would not pretend to. Not looking for somebody who agrees to this and then spends a year hoping it changes. And not looking for a person who wants any of it kept quiet.
