She ties. I read a book in the next room, or I make dinner, or I go out and see a friend and come back later. I have no interest in any of it and never have had, and after eleven years I have run out of ways to say so without somebody deciding I am either being noble about it or have not been properly asked.
We are forty four and forty six, North York, married nineteen years. She is the one with the practice, the history and the opinions. I am writing this half of the post because it is my half of the situation, and because whenever we go anywhere together it is invariably me who ends up being gently interviewed about whether I am all right.
I am all right. It is closer to how I feel about her choir. I like that she has it, I like that it is entirely hers, I am pleased when it has gone well, and I have no wish to be in it. Nobody has ever suggested I must secretly want to sing.
What we are after is a couple or two who can hold both of those facts at once without wanting to work on me. She would like people to talk to about the practice. I would like people who will ask me about something else. Between us we are decent company and we have a large table.
