Rope bottoms · downtown, Toronto
My Tuesday is not your Tuesday and two things have ended over it
Pinned as i_work_nights
- Wants
- somebody whose week bends, or who is free while the city is at work
- Rope so far
- Nine years, two partnerships, both undone by a rota.
- Around
- downtown, Toronto
The rota comes out five weeks ahead and I have no say in it. Some months I have four free evenings, some months I have one, and twice a year I get a run of days off in the middle of the week when everybody I know is at a desk. That single document has ended more of this for me than anything about rope ever has.
Forty, downtown, nine years in, nights in a hospital. Both partnerships ended the same way and neither man was a villain. They proposed Friday. I said no. They proposed Friday again in a slightly different costume, and after about eight months of that we were both quietly angry about something neither of us was willing to name.
What I want is somebody who will sit down and look at a printed rota with me at the start and treat it as a fact rather than an obstacle. If your free evenings are the weekend and only the weekend, this will not work, and I would much rather establish that in the first exchange than in the fifth month.
The upside is genuine. When I do have time I have a great deal of it, in daylight, midweek, with a city that is empty. If you keep strange hours yourself, or you are retired, or your work is your own, we already have more overlap than most people on this board.
