I found out in the ordinary way, which is that somebody mentioned him at a social evening in a manner that made it obvious. There was nothing untoward. He had never lied to me. He had also never told me, and when I raised it he was genuinely baffled, because from where he stood the arrangement had been clear and from where I stood it had not been mentioned.
Thirty four, Brooklyn, three years in. I have no objection whatsoever to somebody having several partners. I have a considerable objection to finding out sideways, and I have concluded that the only fix is to ask early and directly, which is what I now do and what has apparently made me difficult.
So this post is the question, asked in advance. How many people are in your week, what are they to you, and what would I be. If the answer is four, fine, tell me and I will decide. If the answer is that you would rather not define things, we have already finished.
What I want for myself is one person or a clearly stated place in somebody's life, and either is workable. It is the fog I cannot do.
Not looking for anybody who thinks the question is possessive. Not looking for an arrangement I would have to keep quiet about. And not looking for a man who will describe his other partners as not serious, which I have heard, and which told me everything about how he would describe me.
