He has been to precisely two things in ten years and on both occasions he read a book in the corner and had a perfectly nice evening. That is not a sad story and we would like people to stop hearing it as one. He is not being left out. He is not on a journey towards understanding. He finds it about as interesting as I find his cycling.
We are forty five and forty three, the south of the city, married a long time. I tie, I have done for eleven years, and he was there for the whole of the beginning, helped me buy the first of everything, and has never once wanted to be in it.
What we have found is that other people in this scene cannot quite leave that alone. There is always somebody who thinks he could be brought round, and somebody else who has decided he must secretly be unhappy and is being brave about it, and the two of them will occasionally compare notes on the subject while he is standing right there.
So this is a post looking for friends who will treat him as a person rather than a problem to be solved. Somebody to eat with. People who talk about ordinary things for most of an evening and about this for twenty minutes of it.
Not looking for a third, not looking to swap, not looking for anybody for either of us. Things at home have been settled for a decade now. We would simply like company that does not need it explaining.
