The honest reason I do this is dull. For two evenings a week I am not thinking about work, and nothing else I have tried achieves that. Not running, not the gym, not a book, not an evening in a bar with people I like. Two hours of concentrating on one person and the rest of it goes quiet.
I say so because a lot of posts on this board describe something more elevated and I do not recognise it. There is no philosophy in what I do. There is a person, a Tuesday, and a couple of hours where my head is empty of everything else, and I have arranged a fair amount of my life around protecting that.
Thirty six, east side, nine years. Work is demanding and is going to remain so, and I am not looking to be rescued from it by anybody.
What I want is somebody who wants a standing partnership rather than an event. The same evenings, most weeks, over years. Somebody whose own life is also fuller than they would like, and who therefore understands why a fixed point in a week matters as much as it does. Somebody who is not going to read my needing that as a sign that something is wrong with my job, because there is not.
If it helps: I am reliable, I am boring about time, and in nine years I have never cancelled for work. I am aware that is a low bar. It appears to be an unusual one.
