the west end, Toronto

Three roommates, one bathroom, and a wall between my room and the kitchen that I can hear a kettle through. I cannot host. Not sometimes, not if we are quiet, not if I plan it around everybody's shifts. That fact shapes every part of how this works for me and it will be true for at least another two years.

Twenty five, the west end, two years in. I have watched it end two promising conversations and I did not blame either man. It puts the whole burden of space on one person, and that person then also has to be somebody who has a place of their own in this city, which narrows the field considerably further than I would like.

Against that I can offer everything else. I travel to you, always. I am flexible about evenings in a way that people with families are not. I am tidy, I go home when I said I would go home, and I have never once turned up at somebody's door wanting something other than what we agreed.

I would like this to be a relationship rather than a standing appointment at your apartment, which is harder to build when only one of us has a door that shuts properly. I am genuinely open to hearing how other people have managed it, because I have not worked it out yet.

You would be the one tying. These three are about what the person in the rope actually needs.
