One of us cycles, one of us complains, and nothing here is far

One of us cycles everywhere in any weather and considers a twenty minute ride to be no distance whatsoever. The other one of us was not born here, did not grow up on a bicycle, and has firm opinions about rain, wind and the general conduct of everybody else on the road. We have been having this argument for four years and it has never once been resolved.

Twenty nine and thirty one, Noord, together four years. He ties, I get tied, and we are both entirely content with that division of labour.

The reason it is relevant is that in a city where nothing is far, one of us still finds everything far, and this has quietly decided who we know. Our friends are the ones within about twelve minutes of the front door. We have twice failed to keep up with a couple we liked purely because they lived across the water and one of us kept suggesting we stay in instead.

So we are trying to be deliberate about it. We would like to know two or three other couples, we are prepared to travel to them, and one of us is prepared to complain the entire way there and back.

Nothing else about us is complicated. We are not looking for a third and we are not looking to join anything. We would like people to eat with who do what we do and will not mind a bicycle featuring heavily in the conversation.
