Two people have sat me down and explained that I am doing this for the wrong reason. Both of them were sincere, one was very gentle about it, and the wrong reason in their view is that I am not actually all that interested in the rope. They are right that I am not. I am interested in being the only thing somebody is thinking about for an hour, and this is the most dependable way I have found of arranging that.
Thirty seven, out west, six years. I have no strong feelings about the craft of it and no ambition to develop any. A phone face down, nothing else happening in the room, one person concentrating: that is the entire appeal and I have stopped dressing it up.
The objection they both made was that I am using the practice for something it is not for. Possibly. I would put it the other way round: I know precisely what I am there for, which is more than I could say for either of the people who corrected me.
So what I want from a partner is somebody who is not offended by that and who wants a relationship rather than a project. Ideally somebody who also likes being the whole of another person's attention, and can say so without a preamble. I am reliable, I am easy to be around, and I will notice things about you that nobody has mentioned in years, because noticing is most of what I am there for too.
Please, no mentors, no improvement, and nobody whose real interest is in what they are making. I am not the material.
