Friends. Not a third. There, the first line has done its work, and the rest of this can be about something else, which in our case is Sunday.
We are thirty two and thirty four, the south, together seven years. She ties, I am tied, and we do that on Wednesdays, which is not the interesting part of our week.
The interesting part is that we eat properly on Sundays and have done for four years, and the table seats six, and for most of those four years it has seated two. We have colleagues. We have people we message. We have somehow entirely failed to acquire the kind of friends who come round. Both of us are from elsewhere, both of us are mildly awkward, and neither of us has ever been any good at the stretch between meeting somebody and actually knowing them. We are excellent at the first hour and hopeless at the third, which is apparently where friendships are decided.
So we are looking for two more at the table. People who do this, because it is easier not to have to explain the Wednesdays, and because we would like to talk about it occasionally with somebody who is not each other.
We cook, we are not fussy, and we are perfectly willing to be the ones who invite four times before anybody invites back. We would just like to know somebody in this city properly before another five years goes past.
