can old leather be softened up?

Greetings everyone, I’ve been gradually clearing out the barn inherited from my granddad. Along the rear wall, there are harnesses:shock: and leather items scattered everywhere:twisted:. I found plenty of plain leather strips; I figure they were likely used for farm repairs or similar tasks. With minimal effort, those strips could become some nice self-bondage toys. However, after years spent hanging in a dry space, the material has turned as rigid as wood (pun not intended). Is there an easy way to bring this leather back to life, or am I just stuck with trash?
