hey everyone. I spent some time sketching and imagining at work, working on clock ‘mods’ to let you adjust the duration longer or shorter than usual. Just wanted to share my ideas. The key is attached to a string, long enough for it to reach your hands from its anchor point above. As the clock ticks, the key unwinds and drops into your hands, allowing you to free yourself from the restraint. Be sure to test each ‘mod’ carefully so the key falls correctly, and make sure the battery doesn’t die mid-session. All these designs are applied to the minute hand for the specified durations. Note that some clocks might struggle moving the hand plus mods and keys between the 45-minute mark and the hour mark; test thoroughly. (basics at the referenced community page) The blue dot indicates where the key is located. (sketched in ms paint… not as good as my actual doodles) Image A) A basic hook, ideal for those who want to surrender control but have limited time. B) Standard issue; the crossbar prevents the key from slipping back down and getting stuck in the middle. C) The key catches on a hook facing the opposite direction, extending the duration by about 15 minutes compared to B. D) An accidental discovery: starting on the other side of the hook used in A means the key must rotate fully before falling off. For longer sessions, place these ‘mods’ onto the hour hand instead. The durations will be: A) 1-2 hours B) 6-7 hours C) 9-10 hours D) 12-13 hours By starting at different positions (rather than just the 45-minute mark), you can tweak the timing. For instance, starting right at ‘o’clock’ gives: A) While it’s technically hard to start this one in its original equivalent spot, placing it on top yields about 55 minutes or roughly 11 hours B) 15-20 mins / 3-4 hours C) 35-40 mins / 6-7 hours (same as B starting at 45 mins) D) 55 mins / 11 hours (same as A) Although setting a clock timer for 12 hours is possible, I advise against it since we are usually playing solo. Always prioritize safety; don’t let the clock hold onto your key longer than you can manage. To create these mods, use materials light enough not to jam the mechanism with their weight. I recommend using the spare hand from the same clock model you remove. Early prototypes and tests suggest this is one of the trickiest clocks for this kind of release: (scroll down) Image I’ll share photos of finished models when I get around to making them. enjoy!
