I usually advise against it. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling a strong desire to clear out my kink items entirely. I’ve done this before; mostly it just drains your wallet and ends up with depression setting in as you revert to cross-dressing, bondage, and the rest. My wife is supportive of my dressing and play sessions, having acted as my safety person for years. She even had to perform a rescue recently when I got stuck—a situation I wrote about about a month ago. Still, despite her acceptance, the act of getting dressed doesn’t excite me quite so much right now. Self-bondage isn’t as fulfilling as it used to be. Plus, I ended a relationship with a play partner who demanded way too much and was overly controlling. Lately, the impulse to discard everything has been growing. Somehow, I feel somewhat adrift. My wife gave her blessing when I mentioned possibly stopping my dressing routine, telling me to do whatever makes me happy. I’m adopting a “go with the flow” mindset at this moment. Since I’m right on that 50-50 fence, I think taking it slow is the way forward.

As someone else whose interests fluctuate in waves, I strongly recommend finding a middle ground. If you have space in your storage area, box up your items for now so they are out of sight and out of mind. When the cycle brings them back around, they’ll still be there waiting. I’ve never really considered getting rid of my toys and gear completely because replacing it all would cost a fortune, and much of it might be hard to locate again later. During breaks, I simply stash everything away for however long is needed; it remains accessible when I need it. It’s great that your wife accepts both what you do now and the option of stopping. Often, kink is either a guilty pleasure hidden away or becomes essential to the relationship dynamic.
