I really appreciate the ice sock method regarding safety. But there are a few issues…
- The fabric tends to stretch out, causing an otherwise solid setup to become loose through struggle.
- Setting it up is somewhat tedious. Not terrible, but tying a sock securely around an anchor isn’t exactly thrilling. Also, ice particles can get trapped in the wrong spots within the sock. You want all the ice concentrated at the tip of course. So I’ve had to roll up the sock almost to the end before inserting the ice.
- Socks lack durability. I haven’t yet had a sock break and ruin a session, but I have encountered holes that rendered it useless. It seems a custom “sock” would address all these issues. Since no commercial option appears available, making one is the path forward. I was imagining something like a pouch constructed from very strong, non-stretchable fabric would work perfectly. It’d feature 4 (fairly short) wings connecting to one or more D rings which can then be attached to anchors just like any standard D ring. Mostly I’d like ideas on this concept before heading out to have it custom made.
