A Tale From My Early Selfbondage Days

All my early selfbondage experiences took place in The Forest Preserves, an area near Chicago that was preserved from development during the city’s growth. Even though these areas still exist now, they are often visited by drug users and other unwanted people. I wouldn’t go there today when I was younger, those spots away from public paths had no human activity at all. I used them for my adventures. A small river flowed through most of the Preserves. For one adventure, I chose a section where the river stretched nearly 5 miles between roads crossing the Forest Preserves. The week prior to this trip, I biked to the road intersection at the farthest point of my route. I concealed a key for a padlock on that bridge. The spot allowed people in cars passing by during daylight to see me if they looked closely, so it was only safe to retrieve the key at night. The following week, I informed my mother that I would be camping for several days and cycled to a public access point close to home. Besides my tent and sleeping bag, I carried a chain, a metal container lockable with a padlock, ankle cuffs crafted from an old belt so they could secure shut, a short light chain, and handcuffs sourced from items stored in the basement. I also packed a small knapsack holding food and water supplies for several days, along with whatever insect repellent was available back then. Upon reaching the public access point, I walked away from people far enough that observers couldn’t spot me or see my metal box, bicycle, and camping equipment nearby. Finding a sturdy tree where I could tether both the bike and the case, I removed all my clothes and placed them inside along with the keys for the handcuffs and locks securing the ankle cuffs. My boots and socks stayed on to protect my feet. When putting on the ankle cuffs, I threaded the ends of the short light chain through the padlock before fastening it shut. This left me hobbled with a maximum step length of 12 inches. After handcuffing myself with hands positioned in front, I sealed and locked the metal case using the same padlock whose key remained on the bridge roughly 5 miles away. The ends of that large chain had been threaded through the padlock before locking it as well. The big looped around a tree and my bicycle frame. I covered both the bike and box with branches and other debris. Now shackled, handcuffed, and naked, I faced a trek of 5 miles to retrieve the key and another 5 miles back to reclaim my clothes and release myself from bondage. The landscape consisted mostly of untouched forest terrain, featuring many fallen trees, dense undergrowth, making navigation challenging even normally. With restraints on, travel would be slow and arduous. Movement toward the key was sluggish. Often I had to choose between going over, around, or beneath obstacles. The shackles restricted my options frequently. Along with logs and brush, sections near the river were swampy—soft, muddy, sometimes submerged. Circumventing these wet patches could add a mile or more to distance traveled. Usually, I chose cutting through the mud and water instead. Soon enough, I was covered in dirt, perspiring heavily, and exhausted yet compelled to continue onward. My objective reached nearness of the key before sunset arrived because traveling after dark became impossible due to visibility needs regarding direction. If failing arrive close enough before darkness fell completely, waiting another full day for retrieval meant risking daytime exposure. Ultimately, when evening set in beyond reachability limits, I found myself still over a mile distant from obtaining possession of said item needed most crucially hereupon this particular excursion
