It’s a straightforward build. You just need a dowel rod, two long carriage bolts (4 inches for this version), plus some washers and wing nuts. The whole thing costs a bit over $8. It could have been less expensive, but I chose the oak rod since it’s sturdier and looks better than the alternative at Home Depot—I’m guessing that one is something like pine. Image Cut the dowel into two equal sections, each matching your hip width. Mine came out to 17 inches. Drill the holes, slide in the bolts, and secure them with nuts. One thing I don’t love about the commercial The Humbler is its curve. That curve lets you stand up fully upright, even if it’s not super comfortable. This DIY version has no curve at all, making standing up nearly impossible for me (though your mileage may vary depending on your body type). It feels much more humbling than the branded one.
