assistance finding the right setup for a particular situation

That scenario I saw on the main page really appeals to me.. especially that linked community page … but I’m struggling to decide where those semi sharp items should go. Nothing too pointy, please, but what else works well for a surface area of that size? Any suggestions welcome!
