Is childhood sexuality a real thing?

I intended to place this discussion in the general forum, but then I realized it applies just as well to CDing and essentially any other ‘deviant’ behavior out there, so I decided to keep it here. Essentially, while searching for interesting quotes regarding gender and sex, I stumbled upon a lovely find.

In her book Childhood and Sexuality, Jackson suggests that childhood sexuality is indeed real but exists independently of sexual knowledge. She concludes that it is actually the lack of sexual knowledge, rather than its presence, which causes the most harm to young people. “In our attempt to shield children from sex, we are exposing them to danger,” she notes. “By trying to preserve their innocence, we expose them to guilt. By keeping both sexes asexual and then training them into different sexual roles, we perpetuate inequality, exploitation, and oppression within the realm of sexuality.”
