I’m not certain you’d call this inexpensive, but it’s definitely handy!
I picked up a timer from Velleman ( (link: [ …?id=369866]), and I plan to house it in a nice box with remote start/stop capabilities.
My concept: I’m looking for something universal that I can simply plug into my existing gear. For instance, this could be the 12V electro magnet where I drive it via a standard 12V power supply. By placing the timer between the power source and the magnet, using matching connectors, it would work seamlessly.
Price list: (Prices are approximate and include Danish VAT.)
- Velleman VM141: $35 USD
- Connectors: $6 USD
- Housing: $4.50 USD
- Remote case: $2.50 USD
Later on, I’ll modify my safe to demonstrate how it’s done. Here is a quick overview of what I’m working with. Image
Update 08-03-2010 Image I’ve mostly finished it; I just need to connect the remote start/stop and find another pot that fits into the lid.
