Ceiling-Mounted Concealed Hook

Hello everyone. I wanted to share a project I put together. It’s a ceiling hook that stays out of sight, or more precisely, an anchor point capable of supporting significant weight (easily several people) while remaining completely unnoticeable when needed. The setup involves a bolt passing through a light fixture. This can be finished with either a decorative cap or a heavy-duty ring nut (also known as an eye nut). Image Image I’ve sketched out how the mechanism operates. The bolt runs through the center of the light fitting. A spring pulls it upward, so under light load, the hook drops down just enough for the ring nut to clear the fixture. This stops the ring from scraping against the stainless steel housing. To create the decorative nut, I took a draw handle purchased at my local hardware store, enlarged the hole, and then tapped threads into it. When attempting this yourself, ensure your ceiling structure is robust enough to bear the load. I installed an extra large beam specifically for peace of mind.
