any ideas what i could put on my steel butt plug,pain need!

i am curious about what i can apply to my metal butt plug. while practicing self-bondage, i would enjoy feeling some pain or burning, warmth, or slight discomfort. it needs to be safe though. i was considering rubbing it directly onto the plug instead of using regular lube?
