I thought I’d ask here since you folks are honest and it’s a quiet forum. Over the last few years, I’ve had quite a bit of success in life: getting out of my wheelchair, earning my driver’s license, landing a good job, buying a new car, and most recently purchasing a home. However, when I meet women, they seem to lose interest after just a few hours or on that first date.

I feel like I’m offering myself as a provider in this economy, trading shelter for companionship, but what am I doing wrong?

I’ve dated women from stores and work. Many laugh at my jokes, which is usually the spark that gets them interested initially. It’s amusing when shopping; I often talk to myself, making smart comments about where an item is located, its price, or details printed on the box. At my call center job, I make similar remarks during announcements.

On a recent date involving fishing, the girl brought her father along since neither of us knew much about it. I rented the boats and assisted both of them. After five hours, we agreed to do it again. We texted occasionally, but then she vanished without a trace. I thought I had connected with her dad too. Another relationship fizzled halfway through a NASCAR race when she left me.:( She was a fan; I got all the extra passes (500 bucks total) to meet drivers and walk pit road.

With other women, once we get to know each other, they throw a monkey wrench in the mix. At some point, they mention that their husband or boyfriend loves those things too. It feels misleading unless I’m slipping into the dreaded friend zone while you think progress is being made. Then they bring up the significant other.

Thanks for any advice.
