Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been exploring a new addition to my collection: The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage by Midori.
Midori writes with wonderful eloquence and possesses a serene wisdom born from her diverse life experiences. Her style is truly a pleasure to read; I like her very much.
I had experimented with Shibari before, gathering info from various websites, but usually reverted to my reliable old routine for self-bondage sessions. This morning was different. I put some of the book’s concepts into practice.
Adapting these techniques for self-bondage required a bit of reality-checking, though the basics remained consistent. I went with the Mune Nawa, a straightforward breast bondage harness that extended down to my upper thighs since I had plenty of rope available, along with a variation on the Kaikyaku Kani (open leg crab). I also incorporated my shoulder coil to add just a bit more strictness.
The Mune Nawa is fascinating because it provides numerous attachment points for other ropes and looks fantastic! I tied that one up the evening before bedtime and actually slept in it, soundly and restfully—a rarity for me while bound. Even over my corset, it feels comfortable. Looking at the rope pattern in the mirror, it’s simply beautiful.
The crab position is part of the first set of positions taught in the book alongside the breast harness. I appreciate it because it secures the legs tightly. I began with a waist loop as an anchor, which ensured I couldn’t unbend myself. Once each leg was bound from thigh to calf, I crossed my ankles and secured them together using the remaining rope from the crab tie. I left a couple of loops protruding so I could thread my wrists through, securing everything with a cinch noose.
With my wrists fastened, I gently rolled onto my side, sliding backward against the recliner behind me. With considerable effort and some struggling, I made my way to the center of the living room, where I began exploring the sensations of this new bondage setup.
Every preconception I had about Shibari from my limited prior experiences flew out the window. I could move, but not effectively. Struggling against the bonds heightened their presence, magnifying arousal in a way no other bondage has for me except perhaps when it’s at its strictest. And this wasn’t even at the peak of strictness by any stretch. Still, the helplessness was astonishing.
The rope pattern seemed to sharpen my body awareness and heighten my senses more than any previous setup. The harder I struggled, the more the ropes resisted yet allowed just enough movement to keep me aware of them. Even through the corset, I could feel the breast/torso harness ropes tracing the tight curves of my chest, waist, and hips.
The leg crab tie was painful but not truly hurtful; it was a stimulating pain, an intensely erotic discomfort that bordered on unbearable in its sensuality.
I struggled with pleasure, exploring the predicament and the discomfort for nearly an hour before releasing myself. I admired the rope marks left on my legs. I shivered recalling the bondage experience: the delightful pain, the helplessness.
My strict hogtie is great and very entertaining, but now I’m learning new techniques that can significantly enhance and amplify pleasure while held by ropes. I plan to combine some of my tried-and-true self-bondage methods with this new Japanese rope work. If this morning’s experience is any guide, I expect to explore new frontiers of restrained bliss beyond what I currently imagine.
All the while keeping a knife close at hand, just in case my escape artist talents fail me. Jenny.
